Short Bio
My name is Manolis Lianis, I was born in Athens in 1986, I am a musician and audio engineer with a professional background in music composition, music production and music education. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Music Studies with an Integrated Master in Music Technology, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. My academic interests are currently focused on soundscape research, building on my bachelor’s thesis "Spatial recording and analysis of the urban and rural soundscapes of Naxos" (https://pergamos.lib.uoa.gr/uoa/dl/object/3395415).
I have studied advanced music theory with composer Nikos Drelas, and received degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue from the Neoclassical Conservatory. I also attended a three-year workshop on music composition in the context of theater at the National Theater of Greece, led by composers Nikos Kypourgos and Kornilios Selamsis. In addition to my musical studies, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Social Theology and the Study of Religion from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
My musical journey began in my childhood, singing on tape recorders. This early interest evolved into a lifelong passion, leading me to explore various musical instruments such as guitar and drums, and to delve into composition and music technology. Over the years, I have gained hands-on experience playing in bands, creating music for media and for the performing arts, producing music for artists and teaching music in various institutions. I also have a keen interest in field recording, sampling and computer music.
